REVIEW UPDATE: Shanty Grille – Reliably Good

After enjoying the July 4th parade in Catonsville and sitting on the side of Frederick Road for 3+ hours in the sun, we ended up heading off to the Shanty Grille in Ellicott City for some refreshing food and drinks !

sg_calamariThe four of us shared a couple of appetizers: the Calamari Bowl ($11) and Chuck’s Wings ($10 – We went with the Buffalo Wing Style).   The Calamari gave a whole lot more calamari then we expected; it was excellent – pieces of the fried tortilla shell dipped in the sauces were unexpectedly good too!   There were eight wings and they were very tasty!  (Although in hindsight, the portion of Calamari was enough for four to share!  Both got our Thumbs Up!

IMG_3291IMG_3290Paul got a Cubano sandwich and John got a Twisted Turkey sandwich (both $9, both proved too much and both of us took half a sandwich home and both gave them “Thumbs Up!”

IMG_3292Marty enjoyed and polished off his Steak Caesar Flatbread ($10 – but it admittedly looked more like a entree salad than a flat bread!!!)

But probably the best of the bunch was Tom’s  Trout Salad on a bed of a Arugula and with grapes and blueberries.  He shared a taste of the trout with the rest of us and we were amazed as he was – it was a memorable taste and earned a decided “Thumbs Up!”.

John had spied an awesome looking dessert that had been ordered by another table and asked our waitress (she was a gem!) what it was and we learned that it was a Pecan Nut Ball sundae ($6)  topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.   We ordered one to share and I regret to say that it so bowled us over when it arrived, that the four of dug in before I remembered to take a photo!    This dessert was totally awesome!   And for just $6?   Amazing!  (Consensus among the four of us was no one person could finish this off;  YET…   The man at a near by table who ordered it had done just that!!)

Tom summed our feelings when he said “The Shanty Grille is a place that could you recommend to someone knowing that they would enjoy it”  There’s not a lot of restaurants that you can say that about! <Wink>
