FYI: The Breadery – Off the beaten path near Oella but worth discovering

IMG_2704As many times as I’ve enjoyed driving around Oella and the outskirts of Ellicott City, I guess that I had been distracted by the “Country Corner Store” that sits on the corner of the intersection of Oella and Westchester Avenues and totally overlooked a marvelous bakery and gourmet food store, The Breadery,  that lurks off of the beaten path and tucked away off of the street.  I was chagrined to find out that’s owner and founder, Michael Lanasa, opened The Breadery in 1996 and dedicating it to producing fresh, whole grain breads without chemical additives or preservatives.   Discovering and exploring it on a beautiful late April Saturday afternoon, I found myself suffering from intense bread lust (and regretting that I had a very filling good lunch at the Grilled Cheese and Co. in Catonsville just a couple hours earlier).

Bakery products include:

Loaf Breads and Rolls:Montana White, Honey Whole Wheat, Grains Galore, Orange Cranberry Pecan, Cinnamon Raisin Walnut, 5-Seed, Cheddar Parmesan, Cinnamon Swirl, Challah

Specialty Loaf Breads and Rolls:Spelt, Jalapeno Cornbread, Sunflower Wheat, Potato & Black Pepper, Tomato Basil, Smoked Gouda

Artisan Breads:Ciabatta (Par-Baked available upon request), Baguette, Sourdough, 3-Seed Sourdough, French Country Sourdough, Miche, Olive Rosemary Sourdough, Lemon Rosemary Sourdough, Sauerkraut Rye, Semolina,

Quick Breads & Muffins:Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pecan, Pumpkin Chocolate, Bran Cranberry Nut, Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry Corn, Blueberry Peach, Blackberry Peach, Raspberry Cinnamon, Raspberry White Chocolate, Cinnamon Chip

Sweets: Sticky Buns, Brioche Tarts, Berries & Cream Tarts, Cinnamon Twists, Oatmeal Cookies, Scones

Equally amazing, you can sample the oils and vinegars!  (My friend Tom was taken with the “Blood Orange” flavored olive oil and we were amazed at the vibrancy of the orange flavor – and he ended up buying a small bottle of it for $5)
