The Nautilus Diner, on York Road in Timonium is open 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week; it’s similar in ways to a score of other diners in greater Baltimore sporting a retro look with lots of neon and chrome and a diverse menu with expected ties to the Greek roots of the owners.
You enter the peach and chrome Nautilus and you’re immediately confronted by a baked goods case with loads of over-the-top baked good confections crying out “Eat Me!” before you ever get seated and even get a look at the menu. Some decorating touches, like huge painted murals of Greece add both color and atmosphere are unique to the Nautilus.
The menu is vast covering breakfast, lunch and dinner possibilities (all of which are available at any time of the day that you’re in the mood for them). Breakfast meals range from about $5 to $9, Lunch meals range mostly from $6-$12 while dinner meals span from $10 into the low $20’s. With all the possibilities, it’s not easy making a decision but John and two friends finally reached decisions! After hearing that Gyro was “pre-cut”, John opted for a Chicken Souvlaki platter ($10.99), Tom decided on a “Tuscany” Panini ($10.29) while Marty splurged on an open face steak sandwich ($14.99 and a $1 extra for some fried onion rings!).
John’s Chicken Souvlaki came with a good size portion of grilled skewered hunks of chicken with fries and a side Greek salad (as well as greek sauces to go with them) and a big piece of warm pita bread. Together, it made for a hearty, tasty meal.
Marty’s open face steak sandwich looked like it could have fed at least two people! He was really pleased with it and the dent that he made in all of that food was a testimony to the capabilities of his tummy!
Tom’s panini looked good but not quite so overwhelming a portion as the other two entrees but he enjoyed it
Service from our young waitress was attentive checking in to make sure that everything was ok and insuring our beverage glasses got re-filled as needed. Clientele is diverse ranging from older adults, families with young children and college/high school age young people.
All in all, we were please with our meal and felt that the Nautilus delivered good value.
